Today, in Anthropology, Tyler Laughlin asked us if Anthropology is a science.  The answer is yes, but not really or no, but kinda.  I say if it ends with “ology” then it is a science.  The reason it is in question is, when the use the scientific method in there research, their goal is to answer why something happens, but most other sciences ask how something happens.  Even though I and a lot of other people believe Anthropology is a science, it, officially, no longer has the word science in its description.

Today was nice and relaxing study/homework day.  It’s great to have a relaxing day every once and a while.  Now my batteries are recharged, and I’m ready for another busy and productive week.

My dad came to town from Mansfield to watch the game with me today.  We went to Rev’s grill in the MSC, and I’m surprised they don’t have a Bevo burger.  After Rev’s we went to the Spirit Walk which became a Spirit Drive due to lightning.  We eventually made our way to step off.  Next, I enjoyed hanging out at the G &  G tent.  Finally I Attended My first game with my dad as an Aggie.  I’ve been waiting to do that for 20 years. We Won. What a great day!  

Today I got to use a Brunton compass to measure angles to different objects in the Halbouty courtyard, and then I walked out the distances.  I made each measurement 3 to 4 time and recording each one. Then I took the means of each set of measurements and drew a map that represents the location of the objects in a 1:500 distance of each other.  I hope I did good work.  All I have left to say is, it was a good day! 

Well, today I took the first quiz in Differential equations.  I feel confident that I did well, and at the very least I will learn how this math teacher grades.  I have found in the past that paying attention to how a teacher grades can give a little insight on how to study for a class.

So, it’s Thursday and almost weekend time.  I can almost here the midnight yell now.  Ohhh wait, that’s my phone. 

After classes today I attended the TSPO (Transfer Student Program Orientation) and was 1 of 2 Geoscience majors there out of about 400 students.  We didn’t have an orientation leader unlike the rest of the students there.  They simplified some of the helpful resources that are provided to us on campus which GEOS 101 has done.  I would say it was worth going to if I wasn’t in GEOS 101.  It was created by the PAS(Peer Academic Services).  The PAS can be helpful to people that can’t keep up with there classes. They can help you with tutoring, study tips, and more.  They main thing they repeat is “if you do bad on your first set of tests then come see them, and they will help you do better.  If anyone needs there help go to pas@tamu.edu, or if you want to hangout with other transfer students go to tsp@tamu.edu.

Well, today I bought Texas A&M Football tickets for the first time.  Or should I say, I picked mine up and bought my dad one.  I only had to stand in line for a few minutes!  Unfortunately, that probably won’t be the same in a week.

Also, I got a little more caught up on my weekly assignments just before receiving more assignments.  It happens.

Last but not least, the Resume Writing event was very helpful today.  I learned a lot of helpful info about making a resume more attractive to employers.  A couple of things that surprised me are that it can be beneficial to list bad grades and lower level jobs.  For example, my grades at Blinn were very low and now I have great grades and am at A&M.  This apparently can look good to employers, for they realize that I have figured out how to be successful.  Also the low level jobs I had have good qualities like; working outdoors in extreme heat and cold, working with big tools and being able to fix them, and honing my measuring skills.

Now it’s time to hit the books for a little bit before silver taps.

Well, it’s Monday, so I have a week to get as much done before the weekend.  This is the second week in a row that I have started feeling overwhelmed.  But, if there is one thing I’ve learned over time, it’s that I will find the time to get everything done that I need to get done.  Late nights and early mornings hitting the books are a reality of a successful student trying to free up some time on the weekends for relaxation.
