Today Tate, Danny and I woke up at 6am to get breakfast before our field mapping session. After properly filling up on food and caffeine, everyone loaded up in the vans and we headed to the site. We spent the morning learning about the area by Dr. Heaney, and in the afternoon we tried our best to map the geologic contacts in the area. Everyone got a rude awakening of how difficult mapping geology can be. I believe most of us understood the technical aspects of the job, but actually collecting the data and understanding it was frustrating.

Today for field geology, we loaded up the vans while it was raining cats and dogs and traveled to Mason, TX. It was a very entertaining ride to Mason, and we got to know each other a little better during the drive. One of our crew got bit by some ants and had an allergic reaction, so his new nick name is Jolie due to Angelina Jolie’s big puffy lips. We saw a few of the rock formations that we will be mapping tomorrow.

Well, I think I did well on the differential equations quiz today, and my allergies are doing much better. Know I can prepare for an early start tomorrow to Mason, TX for Field Methods. It is suppose to thunder storming when we get there, so I’m happy I have gotten all the gear I need for the occasion. This will be a true test for the whole class’ seriousness in Geology!

Today I finally received my new hiking boots in the mail, and it’s pretty good timing since I’m leaving on a field trip early Friday. I’ve been doing differential equations for a couple hours now, and I’m feeling confident about the quiz tomorrow. Furthermore, I hope I start acclimating to my allergies before the field trip, so I’ll feel more enthusiastic about all the walking, plotting and studying this weekend.

Normally I would have started today getting myself a football ticket, but I’m going on a field trip this weekend with my field methods class. I got some homework back in my Mineralogy class, so now I can start looking at what I’m doing wrong and fix it before test time. Differential equations is still continuing and I’m ready for it to be over. I understand how to do the problems, but i’m making small mistakes on the quizzes that are detrimental to my grade.

The mineralogy class participated in a Doctoral student’s study this morning. I received a review sheet in Anthropology for an exam we will take next Monday. In field methods we’re gearing up for our field trip this weekend. Also, in GEOS 101 we had a great speaker who I believe is a Dr. researching micro-petrology. He did a great presentation while his kids ran around the room and wrote all over the dry erase board.

Today was another relaxing Sunday. I got plenty of studying done today, and ran a few errands. Now it’s time for a little reading before bed. Tomorrow is the beginning of a new busy week.

I did some good studying today. Also I watched the football game. Loses happen. At least it was against the number 1 team in the nation. Also it was a close game.

Today I took a Map Quiz in Anthropology, and it went smoothly. I completed my GEOL 309 assignment before class and then did it again during lab to make subtle changes and ask questions. It was a nice short day. Now it is time to study for next week and maybe watch a game.

Geosciences Career Fair Day! Most companies said they will happily to accept my application when I’m a graduate student, but there were a couple companies that will have intern ship available for Geology B.S.. I had a great time talking to the recruiters and getting to know them, their jobs, and their companies. I know have a much better understanding of the Geology Work and Graduate environment.
